Vessels Moving Through Suez Canal After Stuck Ship Moved

Ships began moving through the Suez Canal after the Ever Given container ship that ran aground last week was refloated and moved out of the way. Some 113 ships were expected to move through the canal between Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, with the entire backlog of over 422 ships being cleared in under four days, Reuters reported.

The Ever Given will be inspected for seaworthiness before continuing on its journey. Inspectors will also try to figure out what caused the ship to run aground, costing shippers and the canal billions of dollars a day in lost revenue. Among the allegations are crew error and traveling at high speeds, The Associated Press reported.

The 200,000-ton Panama-flagged, Japanese-owned Ever Given is classified as an ultra-large container ship. It is carrying hundreds of containers bound for Rotterdam from China.
