Voter Turnout Very Low in Lebanon’s Parliamentary Election

Voter turnout in Lebanon’s parliamentary election was historically low with a reported 41% participation rate. The last election, in 2018, had a 50% participation rate. Elections violations were reported from throughout the country. In addition, polling stations that were supposed to be accessible for disabled voters were not put into place as planned, observers said.

Preliminary results show wins for several candidates running on a reform agenda, Reuters reported. Official results could take up to 48 hours.

It is the country’s first parliamentary election since becoming seized by a major economic crisis.
