Weapons Cache Discovered in Afghanistan’s Nimroz Province

On Sunday, the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) reported that security forces had discovered a weapons cache in Afghanistan’s western Nimroz province. Acting on a tip-off, GDI personnel conducted operations in parts of the province and found a cache of weapons and ammunition, including a Kalashnikov rifle and 15 pistols. However, the statement did not confirm whether any arrests were made.

Similarly, security forces in the southern Helmand province found nine Kalashnikov rifles, four machine guns, a pistol, a rocket, and mortar mines, three sets of walkie-talkies, and thousands of bullets and cartridges during search operations on Wednesday.

The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside security organs. Over the past 18 months, thousands of light and heavy weapons, including tanks, artillery, and anti-aircraft guns have been collected by the establishment, according to security officials.
