Yemen’s Houthis Said to Have Launched Drone Attack on Saudi Airport

Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched a drone attack on an arms depot at an airport in southern Saudi Arabia, the Yemeni TV channel Al Masirah reported on Wednesday, without indicating damage or casualties. The Iran-backed rebels reportedly targeted hangars at Najran Airport containing warplanes. The Saudi-led coalition has yet to comment. This is the second drone attack in as many weeks by the Iran-aligned Houthis on Saudi Arabia, having used an armed drone strike on oil assets in the kingdom last week, a day after an alleged Iranian-directed attack on four ships off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, two of which belonged to Saudi Arabia. The kingdom announced on Monday that it had intercepted two ballistic missiles allegedly fired by the Houthis, although the rebel group denied doing so. The latest hostilities coincide with the ongoing civil war in Yemen, seen mainly as a proxy war between Riyadh and Tehran. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates head a western-backed coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015.
