Young Girl Injured in California Synagogue Shooting Left Israel to Escape Gaza Rockets

The family of an eight-year-old girl wounded in Saturday’s shooting at a Chabad synagogue in Poway, California, relocated from Israel to the United States to escape incessant rocket fire emanating from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Israeli youngster Noya Dahan, who was born in the southern Israeli town of Sderot, was struck in the face by bullet shards during an attack on the Jewish house of worship perpetrated by John Earnest, 19. The anti-Semite opened fire on members of the congregation on the last day of Passover, killing 60-year-old Lori Gilbert-Kaye and also wounding rabbi Yisroel Goldstein as well as Dahan’s uncle, Almog Peretz. Dahan’s father told Israeli media that rockets had hit the family home in Sderot several times and wounded him in one such instance. For his part, Peretz said he used the experience gained from repeatedly running to bomb shelters in order to save his niece’s life.
