Youngest Son of Egypt’s Morsi Follows Father in Death

Abdallah Morsi, the youngest son of Mohammad Morsi, who was democratically elected president of Egypt in the wake of the 2011 overthrow of Hosni Mubarak and later was overthrown himself, died in Cairo on Wednesday of a heart attack. He was 24. The senior Morsi, a leader in the Muslim Brotherhood, died last June at age 67 while in a courtroom fighting charges of espionage against Egypt. His death, too, was attributed to a heart attack. He had become president in 2012 and was toppled the next year by the military at the command of Gen. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who later declared himself president. Abdallah Morsi attended many sessions of his father’s various trials and was outspoken in his defense.
