With Turkey’s parliament about to approve the lifting of a ban on wearing headscarves in universities, more than 100,000 secularists took to the streets of Ankara over the weekend to protest the proposal. The pro-Islamic government and president have approved the idea and now the Islamic-dominated parliament is expected to back the plan in the next few days. The protesters say modern Turkey was founded on secularist principles and the new government is attempting to erode those ideals wherever it can.
