11 Lebanese Pilgrims Kidnapped by Syrian Rebels Remain in Captivity

Eleven Lebanese Shiite pilgrims who were kidnapped by anti-government rebels in the province of Aleppo last week as they were returning from a pilgrimage to Iran will be released only in exchange for opposition fighters being held by the Al-Asad regime according to the Beirut-based Daily Star. The paper quotes sources close to the captors as saying the group has been divided and held in multiple locations. Complicating matters for the Lebanese is the rumor, denied by Hizbullah, that three of the captives are its members. Turkey has been trying to intercede in the matter and originally believed the captives would have been released before the weekend.
