The Israeli security agencies have arrested as many as 30 young residents of the West Bank, charging them with being operatives working for Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The arrests were carried out at Birzeit University, which immediately condemned the arrests as a violation of international law. Sources in the West Bank expect some to be released quickly but a number of the arrestees are facing significant jail time.
