Hamas Threatens To Target Israeli Officials

The Islamist Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip released a new video threatening to target Israeli security officials in retribution for the assassination of senior Hamas official Mazan Fukha, who Hamas says was killed by Israel. In the video, Hamas leader Khaled Mashal says “We accept the challenge” as targets are placed on a series of Israeli officials including Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Army Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, as well as the heads of the Shin Bet and the Mossad. After all the faces are shown, the video ends with the sentence “The type of retribution will be in accordance to the act.” “The enemy uprooted one of our heroes in Gaza,” Hamas leader Khaled Mashal said on Monday in a public speech he gave in Gaza, following the recent assassinations of Hamas leaders such as Fukha and also senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan. Israel does not comment publicly on the assassinations of Hamas officials. Meanwhile, a Palestinian who was convicted in the lynching death of two Israeli army reservists who accidentally entered the West Bank city of Ramallah, was released following a retrial and new evidence which made positive identification difficult. Haitham Muari had requested a retrial and pled guilty to lesser charges. He was taken from the Ofer Prison in the West Bank to a checkpoint in the Gaza Strip as part of his plea deal.
