“A Long Way to Go” after Two Days of Kerry-Zafir Talks in Geneva

Two days of talks in Geneva between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zafir were characterized as making “some progress,” but officials from both nations agree that there remains “a long way to go” before seeing a diplomatic solution to the issue of Iranian nuclear development. Representatives from Iran and the six major powers plan to return to talking next week at a venue still to be named. Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon summed up the Israeli take on the talks, calling the deal “a danger to peace in the western world and it threatens the security of the state of Israel.” In a statement, Ya’alon said, “every deal that will be signed between the West and this messianic and apocalyptic regime will strike a severe blow to Western and Israeli interests and will allow Iran to become a nuclear threshold state and continue its terror activities.”
