Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas said in Cairo on Monday that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), headed by his Fatah faction, supported the Egyptian plan for reconciliation among Palestinian groups. After meeting with 13 groups, the Egyptian brokers came up with a plan that envisions creation of a unity government that replaces the Fatah-led government in the West Bank and the Hamas-led government of the Gaza Strip. Security in both areas would be overseen by an international force from Arab nations. Under the plan, elections would be moved up as well. While in Cairo ‘Abbas also discussed the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
