ABC News in America is reporting that a nuclear physicist who went missing last June while on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia actually defected to the U.S. with assistance from the CIA. Shahram Amiri worked for a Tehran university with close ties to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. ABC quoted “people briefed on the operation by intelligence officials” as referring to the defection as an “intelligence coup.” There has so far been no official comment by any department of the U.S. government.
