An Afghan National Police officer opened fire on colleagues at a checkpoint in southern Afghanistan on Saturday killing ten officers. The deadly shooting spree came one day after another Afghan policeman and a cohort shot and killed 6 American servicemen in Helmand province. The Associated Press quoted a member of the provincial council as saying that details are still sketchy because the incident took place in a remote area, but that the policeman/gunman, who is believed to be aligned with a terrorist group, was killed in the ensuing firefight. Attacks against American troops by their Afghani counterparts are rapidly increasing.
