Afghan Police-trainee Kills Six U.S. Soldiers

A new Afghan police recruit being trained by American troops turned his weapon on his instructors, killing six U.S. soldiers on Monday. The incident took place in Asadabad, an area in east Afghanistan considered to be a Taliban stronghold. The shooter, who was identified as a local resident who had just begun his training, was killed by return fire. Officials of the NATO International Security Assistance Force are investigating. A Taliban spokesman praised the gunman.
