Afghan Security Forces Thwart Kidnapping, Arrest 3 Suspects

Provincial police spokesman Abdul Mobin Safi reported that a child who had been abducted in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, was freed in Taleqan, the capital of the northern Takhar province, on Friday night. The security personnel launched special operations after pinpointing the kidnappers’ location, rescuing the child, and apprehending three suspects. The kidnappers had demanded 2 million Afghanis (around $23,000) in ransom from the child’s family.

This rescue comes just 10 days after police in Kabul saved a man and killed three kidnappers in a similar operation. In the economically strained and war-torn country, criminal organizations frequently target affluent families with kidnapping schemes, demanding high ransoms for their loved ones’ release.
