Afghanistan Heading to Elections

Afghanistan will hold its next Presidential election on April 5, 2014, in a vote that is seen as crucial for the war-torn country. President Hamid Karzai is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term. There had been speculation that security problems and the exit of foreign troops that year would delay the election. Karzai was re-elected in 2009 amid widespread allegations of fraud. Foreign combat troops are scheduled to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
