Ahmadinejad Flies to Damascus for Talks “On Israel”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Damascus on Thursday morning for talks with Syrian President Bashar Al-Asad. An Iranian news agency described the purpose of the talks as being “the threat Israel poses to the Middle East and beyond.”  Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying before his departure that Iran and Syria stand “in the front line of standing up to Israel.” He complained that “these days, the Zionists are constantly threatening countries and nations surrounding Palestine. They intend to drag the region into an atmosphere of serious tension.”
