Ahmadinejad Goads Western Leaders Over News of New Nuke Site

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad goaded the west on Saturday when he suggested to reporters in Tehran that news of an additional nuclear site unknown until now was a “blow to the arrogance [of the United States and other western nations].” Following revelation of the site, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called for immediate “crippling” action against Iran by the west. Iran tried to defuse the new outrage when Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi announced that Tehran will permit an inspection of the newly revealed site by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Salehi also said the hidden plant at Qom was built as a back-up to the main facilities in case they were attacked. He said, “the facility is to guarantee the continuation of our nuclear activities under any conditions," but did not say when the inspection will take place. Meanwhile, Iran began several days of weapons testing over the weekend. Two short-range missiles and a multiple-missile launcher were tested on Saturday by the Revolutionary Guards, which announced the activities will continue for several more days.
