Al-Baghdadi Dead, but Fat Lady Has Not Sung

It was a day of victory laps for Team Trump following the successful mission to kill the man who grew the Islamic State from what might simply (sic) have been another al-Qa’ida franchise to the most virulent of terror groups – and the most global. Defense experts opine that while the demise of al-Baghdadi brings great satisfaction on many levels, from those victims who survived ISIS infamy and the families of those who did not; to the intelligence and defense communities that devoted untold efforts to bring the ISIS chief to justice and the legislators who funded the Herculean efforts to dispatch al-Baghdadi to the hereafter, the successful mission is not a game-changer. Most of those who spoke to The Media Line were quick to cite the killings of heads of other terrorist groups and the ability of those groups to survive the deaths of one or more of the leadership echelon. What is notable, though, is the mass of intelligence gathered in this particular operation largely due to the unusual opportunity for American intelligence operatives to reconnoiter and map out the physical and the procedural. Bottom line: the mission was, indeed, an extraordinary fete worthy of praise on multiple levels but should not be confused with a perceived end to ISIS as an extreme threat.
