Libyan leader Muamar Al-Qaddafi’s wife Safiya and three of his children – Aisha, Mohammad and Hannibal entered Algeria by car early on Monday, the Algerian Foreign Ministry reported. Rebel leaders said a fourth son, Khamis, the head of an elite paramilitary brigade, may have been killed on Saturday in clashes south of Tripoli. The whereabouts, of Al-Qaddafi himself along with those of his other sons remain unknown. Rebel officials have previously accused Algeria – Libya’s only North African neighbor that has not recognized the council – of backing Al-Qaddafi and providing him with mercenaries to suppress the revolt. Algeria has denied the charge. Algerian officials said they informed the United Nations secretary-general and Libya’s opposition National Transitional Council, which later said they would demand that authorities there extradite the group to Libya.
