Britain’s Sky News reported on Tuesday that intelligence agencies uncovered an Al-Qa’ida plot to simultaneously attack London and at least two other European cities. A target inside the United States was also a possibility according to intelligence sources. Although none of the intelligence agencies was providing details of plans for the attacks, Sky News suggested that the recent increase in NATO drone attacks against targets in Pakistan were part of efforts to interrupt terrorist plans for the multi-pronged assault. Sky also indicated that the attacks would have been similar to the attacks in Mumbai, India, in terms of tactics. Intelligence agencies have apparently indicated that while the threat of this series of planned attacks has been reduced, threats of action by Al-Qa’ida remain possible.
