Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and the European Union’s special representative for the Middle East peace process, Sven Koopmans, convened on Wednesday to discuss strategies for securing a cease-fire and promoting humanitarian initiatives in the Gaza Strip. A statement from the Algerian Foreign Ministry revealed that the meeting focused on the recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Both parties emphasized the urgency of involving the international community to work towards a lasting, just, and definitive resolution of the Palestinian issue, advocating for the creation of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state.
Since assuming its nonpermanent seat on the UN Security Council in January, Algeria has actively pursued the adoption of a draft resolution aimed at achieving a cease-fire in Gaza.
