Algeria Sees Boost in Oil and Gas Production in 2023

Algeria increased its oil and gas production in 2023, the state-owned APS news agency reported. The North African nation exported 97 million tons of oil equivalent last year, marking a 3.5% increase from the previous year. According to Miloud Medjelled, the director general of prospection at the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mining, Algeria produced 194 million tons of oil equivalent in 2023.

The country’s natural gas output saw a significant rise, increasing from 132.7 billion cubic meters in 2022 to over 136 billion cubic meters in 2023. Natural gas accounts for approximately two-thirds of Algeria’s total production of oil equivalent. Looking forward, Medjelled forecasted a steady annual increase of 1.4% in natural gas production until 2028. This growth highlights Algeria’s expanding role in the global energy market and its potential impact on regional and international energy dynamics.
