American Behind Somalia Suicide Bombing

Islamic leaders say the suicide bomber who attacked African Union peacekeepers in Somalia over the weekend was an American citizen. The bomber, identified as Abdusalam al-Muhajir, and another Al-Shabab militant reportedly disguised themselves as government soldiers in order to get close to the peacekeepers. Al-Shabab said dozens were killed, but other reports said only that two peacekeepers were wounded. Al-Muhjair is said to have been brought to Minnesota when he was an infant but returned to his homeland as an adult. Speaking with an American accent and using U.S. street slang, he joined Islamic militants fighting for control of the lawless country. There have been reports of an increase in young men of Somali origins from the U.S. and Europe who have been returning to join the al-Qa’ida-linked Islamist fighters. Meanwhile, Kenya launched an air strike against Al-Shibab in southern Somalia killing at least 10 people, and wounding 45 as it seeks to put an end to kidnappings and incursions on its soil.
