To the Palestinians it is more undeniable proof that the Trump administration and Israel’s so-called “settler movement” is inexorably co-mingled to the point where consideration of the Americans as honest brokers in any peace process is an absurdity. To the envoys who are participating in an event sponsored by the Elad organization, it’s merely an acknowledgement of reality because, according to special White House representative Jason Greenblatt, it’s “ludicrous” to accuse the Americans of supporting the “Juda-ization of Jerusalem” which is an “act of hostility vs. the Palestinians.” In addition to Greenblatt, U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman will participate in the inauguration of the “Path of the Pilgrims” in the Silwan section of Jerusalem, an event being put on by Elad. The path runs from the Pools of Siloam along streets dating back to the time of the Second Temple to an entry/exit near the Temple Mount. It took some six years for the path to be constructed, the work being done through a tunnel. The daily newspaper Haaretz reported that two high-level officials of the Israel Archaeology Association accused the project of offering “bad archaeology.”
