Anti-Israel Boycott Scores Success with European Supermarket Chain

The anti-Israel boycott movement scored another success in Europe when Luxembourg’s largest supermarket company halted the sale of Israeli produce until produce grown in the West Bank can be differentiated from produce grown in pre-1967 Israel. Management of the Cactus supermarket chain succumbed to pressure brought about by the anti-Israel forces holding demonstrations in their stores. The ban only applies to produce, which Cactus sees as producing negligible profit, while other products with more significant profit margins will continue to be sold in the Cactus stores. Boycott organizers have been aggressive in Europe where they lobby for a ban on all Israeli products, not just those originating in areas Israel acquired in the 1967 war. The European Union as a whole is considering a ban on any goods from post-1967 areas not marked as such.
