A demonstration on Sunday in Bethlehem’s Duheishe refugee camp protesting the Palestinian Authority’s jailing of six activists last April turned violent as the marchers threw Molotov cocktails at security forces and the PA cops responded with live fire. The six began a hunger strike after being accused of possessing weapons and planning an attack on Israel but no charges were filed. But as soon as they were set free, Israeli security forces arrested four, sparking allegations of collusion between the Palestinian Authority and the Israelis. The group’s leader remained in hiding until he was discovered and killed in a shootout with Israeli troops last week. His death sparked strong emotions which led to the melee.
