Apparently Succumbing to Severe Reaction, President Trump puts Pullout on Slow Track

Stung by the furor he triggered with his announcement that U.S. troops were being withdrawn from Syria, President Trump has slowed down the pullout according to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). One of the president’s closest allies on Capitol Hill, Graham strongly nevertheless opposed the withdrawal when the president made the announcement last month that the 2,000 servicemen/women were being pulled out. He also gave the impression that the pullout would take place quickly. But in light of Graham’s report after having lunch at the White House, it seems that the number of Trump supporters abandoning the president on the issue has taken its toll. While the pullout still stands, according to Graham, it’s now “in a pause situation.” The primary concerns of critics of the move are the devastating effect it would have on the Kurds and the negative impact on Israel. Although Turkey is considered to be an American ally, it seeks to obliterate the Kurdish fighters who have served the U.S. well. Troubleshooting the convoluted situation in Syria has apparently fallen to National Security Adviser John Bolton who will fly to the region for talks in Israel and Turkey this weekend.
