A majority of Israel’s Arab population wants to be part of the nation’s political process. According to a poll released on Sunday, 64% favored Arab parties joining the governing coalition, with the number rising to 68% if the coalition is center-left or left wing. A large majority of Arab Israelis were in favor of designating specific cabinet positions for Arab lawmakers (74 %). Perhaps the most interesting result offered by the pollsters is a strong showing (61%) of Arab Israelis who would support a joint list comprised of both Israeli Jews and Arabs. The poll was commissioned by an Israeli NGO that promotes coexistence projects for Arabs and Jews.
