Arab League leader ‘Amru Mousa is in Lebanon for talks with the heads of all the major factions, including Hasan Na’srallah of Hizbullah. Mousa is hoping league pressure will persuade the pro- and anti-Syrian organizations to end their war of words and try to reach a deal that will allow a resumption of power sharing in Lebanon. Following its successes in its war with Israel, Hizbullah demanded greater representation for the pro-Syrian Shi’ite bloc in government. However, the lead partners refused, resulting in Hizbullah and Amal quitting the government. Since then, there have been numerous assassinations and bomb attacks, particularly around Beirut.
