Archaeological Find Challenges Theory of Oldest Man

Human remains found in Israel that date back 400,000 years may be proof that Homo sapiens were in the Middle East before they were in Africa according to the archaeologist who made the discovery. Tel Aviv University’s Avi Gopher told the French news agency AFP that eight teeth were found in Qesem Cave near Tel Aviv and that the cave was used “from about 400,000 years ago to about 200,000 years ago.” The oldest known Homo sapiens were discovered in Africa and were believed to have lived about 200,000 years ago. The Tel Aviv find, made in 2006 but just reported, could be from as much as another 200,000 years before that time.
