Sophisticated weapons are no longer “smuggled” to Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip. According to the former head of Israel’s domestic security agency, they are simply “transferred” from Libya and Egypt into the Gaza Strip. The result is what is being termed an “exponential increase in the quantity of arms reaching Gaza.” The Israeli daily Haaretz quoting military sources lists “high-trajectory rockets, ready-made explosive devices, anti-tank missiles and possibly anti-aircraft missiles” among the items reaching Hamas. Former Shin Bet head Avi Dichter told the newspaper that Hamas, under its patron Iran, is warehousing arms in the Gaza Strip until it is able to transfer them to the West Bank.
