Asian-American Couple Sentenced by Qatari Court for Adopted Daughter’s Death

A Qatari court has sentenced an American couple to three years in prison for being responsible for the death of their 8-year old daughter adopted from Ghana. Matthew and Grace Huang, who live in Los Angeles, were arrested in January 2013 on charges they caused the girl’s death in order to sell her organs. The sentence includes fines of more than $4,000 each and deportation after the prison-time has been served. The deceased child, Gloria, had an eating disorder relating back to starvation during her infancy in Ghana according to a website set-up to support the couple. They have two other adopted children in Los Angeles. The Qatari judicial system has refused to accept character testimony offered by locals who are familiar with the Huangs.
