Troops loyal to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad backed by tanks killed at least 45 people as they moved from house-to-house searching for rebels in Damascus neighborhoods on Wednesday. Dozens of bodies apparently shot to death execution-style were discovered in one location. Fierce fighting meanwhile continued in Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, and other places across the country. Opposition leaders, meanwhile, dismissed a statement by a senior Assad-regime official that seemingly opened the door to talk of the president resigning.  The head of the Syrian National Council, the opposition umbrella organization, was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, “We have grown accustomed to the regime’s lies.”
