Australia‘s Shi’a and Sunni Muslim communities have forged a rare alliance: their hatred of Israel. While the two groups continue to fight throughout the Islamic world, in Australia both have expressed support for the Lebanon-based Hizbullah. Australia‘s top Shi’a cleric recently called Israel a "terrorist state," to which the head of Australia‘s Sunnis expressed his community’s agreement. The top Sunni cleric, who is the mufti of Australia, has called Hizbullah "freedom fighters."
