Author: Israel Won’t Rest Until It Bests Hizbullah

Lebanese military analysts believe that Israel cannot live with the fact it was beaten by a terrorist organization in last summer’s war and is therefore preparing for the probability that hostilities will resume in the near future. The Daily Star newspaper in Beirut reports that Hizbullah began upgrading its fortifications and building new positions immediately after last summer’s 34-day war concluded, and that it is now aggressively building positions north of the Litani River. The paper quotes former UNIFIL spokesman Timur Goksel as saying that, "Since 1949, [Israel] lived on their reputation of the unbeatable Israeli soldier, the invincible Jewish Army, the legend. And here comes the Hizbullah who says ‘We beat you.’ They have to set that correct. They have no other option – they have to restore their credibility." Referring to the Hizbullah, Goksel said, "They’re almost impossible to infiltrate and extraordinarily professional." Judith Palmer Harik [1], author of the book "Hizbullah: The Changing Face of Terrorism," was quoted as telling the AFP news agency that Hizbullah is "rearming… In fact, there has been no interruption in their receiving of more arms." Goksel sums up the general belief that, "If it happens tomorrow, [Hizbullah are] ready."
