Iraq’s spiraling violence claimed 35 lives on Christmas day when two car bombs exploded in and around a marketplace in Baghdad on Wednesday. More than 50 were wounded in the blasts, one of which apparently targeted the St. Johns Church where Christmas services were being held. A church official told reporters that the blast was aimed at the market and not the church. Sunni Muslims are believed to be behind the attack. The death toll in Iraq for the year 2013 stands at 6,650.
