While Israelis debate whether the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement is an insidious attack on the Jewish state or a mere inconvenience (see: https://themedialine.org/news/is-time-on-the-side-of-the-boycott-divestment-and-sanctions-movement-bds/ [1]) a new poll indicates a growing number of Americans and Brits see the campaign as a “legitimate” means for bringing pressure against Israel. Offsetting the bad news for Israel’s supporters is the belief held by 62% of American respondents (50% of Britons) to the same poll that BDS is a modern form of anti-Semitism. As pointed out by The Media Line’s Ben Lynfield (link), even Israel’s government is mixed in its approach to the campaign. While a foreign ministry spokesman dismissed BDS as failing to impact on the Israeli economy, its UN Mission organized a major conference at the UN General Assembly in cooperation with a Who’s Who of pro-Israel advocacy organizations to counter BDS efforts.
