The cancellation is believed to be the first time such an event was pulled after it had already been announced. The scrubbing of the conference didn’t pass without backlash from the organization’s leadership. According to the Israeli daily Haaretz, the decision was made by one man: the organization’s executive director, Mike Slade. Other members of the executive committee submitted their resignations in protest of the decision.
