Bill Submitted in Israeli Parliament to Annex Post-1967 Lands

A bill that has been submitted in the Israeli parliament (Knesset) would formally annex about 90 Jewish communities built on land acquired in the 1967 war that the Palestinians claim for their future state. Following the war, Jerusalem neighborhoods that were under Jordanian control since 1948 and the Golan Heights adjoining Syria were legally annexed. The West Bank remained under Israeli administration. Most of the international community, including the United States, has never recognized the Israeli annexations. The measure has not been endorsed by Prime Minister Netanyahu or his government. The new bill includes post-1967 communities generally believed to be among those the Israeli government would vacate for a peace deal as well as those in the so-called "settlement blocs" that the Israelis expect to retain as part of any agreement with the Palestinians.
