Brahms, Beethoven, Elgar to make Appearances on Tehran Stage

You have to go back some 30 years to discover when a Western orchestra last played in Iran. Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution such activities have been unwelcome. However, on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, 60 members of the Osnabruck Symphony will play classical music on a Tehran stage. The Tehran Symphony Orchestra played in Osnabruck a year ago. Organizers say the concerts are a bid to improve cultural cooperation. Germany has enjoyed relatively friendly ties with Iran, allowing it to act as a broker on more delicate issues.
