Britain’s Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett says she’s lodged a formal protest with Washington over the use of Scotland’s Prestwick Airport for stop-over and refueling of cargo planes bringing laser-guided bombs to Israel. Beckett says she has already brought the British opposition to the attention of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Beckett is upset on two counts: the use of the UK as a staging area for weapons shipments and the apparent violation of procedures for handling dangerous cargo on the part of the American crews.
