Brits Concerned Over Reports Airline Bomber Groomed in London

British newspapers are reporting that the man who attempted to blow up a Delta airlines jetliner on Christmas was groomed in terrorism while a student in London. The activities of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab while a student at the University College in London – where he is a former president of the Islamic Society – are being scrutinized in the media. The Times is reportin that a picture of one who “immersed himself in radical politics” is emerging. The emerging picture is not dissimilar to revelations made about Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the man who killed 13 soldiers at Ft. Hood, Texas, whose involvement in radical Islamic politics came to light only after he committed mass murder. In the case of Abdulmutallab, only a faulty detonator prevented the loss of an entire flight filled with passengers. The Times reports that Abdulmutallab is the fourth president of the Islamic Society to face criminal charges in three years. Two have been convicted of terrorist charges and one is facing a re-trial in the plot to blow up airplanes.
