Due to skyrocketing tensions between Iraqi government and Kurdish forces, Canadian special operations troops have been ordered to suspend its support for the Iraqi army in the northern part of the country until the situation is clarified. The government’s forces have been fighting fiercely against Kurdish troops in a contest in which both sides have been trained by the United States military advisers. According to the Canadian military, it will continue its activities in other areas of the country. On Friday, the Iraqi prime minister ordered a 24-hour ceasefire with Kurdish forces so that talks can continue and troops be deployed peacefully along the Kurdistan border.
