Crackdown on Jewish Terrorism in Israel Nets Three
Although a gag order is preventing release of full details of the investigation, Israeli security sources are saying that two youth from Jewish West Bank communities were arrested on Sunday for crimes that constitute terrorism. As of Sunday, at least three youths had been detained for terrorism-related activities, at least two known to be minors. The investigation is being conducted by the Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic security agency, and the Israeli police. Local sources are claiming that the detainees have not been allowed legal representation. But lawyers claiming to speak for the young suspects tell of abusive behavior by security personnel that was clearly intended to force confessions. Although much of the activity being investigated is the vandalizing of vehicles, there was a fatal incident last October in which a woman was killed and her husband wounded when rocks were thrown at their vehicle.
