Damascus Rocked by Car Bomb that Leaves at Least 12 Dead

A large car bomb exploded in downtown Damascus on Monday leaving at least 12 dead and more than 45 wounded. Anti-regime rebels, who are known to use car bombs and suicide bombers, are believed to be responsible for the attack which took place in the business district near the Finance Ministry and other government buildings. In recent days, the anti-Assad forces have made inroads near the capital, prompting the regime to call in the army’s crack units from duty on the Golan Heights to assist in the defense of Damascus. That has created a gap that is being filled by rebel forces that Israel fears includes a large number of Islamist and Jihadist terrorists prompting it to beef up its own defense along the Golan border.
