The president and prime minister of Pakistan both issued statements condemning Saturday’s suicide bombing in Charsadda in the north of the country. The death toll has risen to 28. Among the wounded and seemingly the target of the attack was the country’s interior minister, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao. The incident took place in the North West Frontier Province, one of the most violent parts of Pakistan. The authorities are suggesting the perpetrator was Afghani or from one of the tribes along the border with Afghanistan. Islamabad and Kabul are embroiled in an ongoing war of words as to which of the two countries is responsible for the terrorism in the region.
