Defense Minister Ends Non-Security Cooperation with Palestinian Authority

In response to Friday’s UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel’s policies in areas conquered in the 1967 war and claimed by both Israel and the Palestinians, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman ended all Israeli coordination with the PA that is not security related. Liberman also ordered military officials from initiating any contact with representatives of the PA. On Monday, Liberman attacked the French peace conference slated for January 15, calling it “a modern version of the Dreyfus trial,” a reference to the famous affair of the 1800s which a Jewish French military officer was charged with treason in a trial that became the iconic illustration of anti-Semitism. The minister asserted that the Dreyfus put one Jew on trial whereas the French peace initiative places “all the people of Israel and the entire state of Israel on the stand.”
