Israel’s excitement at being chosen to host the UEFA international soccer league’s Under-21 European Championship tournament is being dampened by the latest efforts of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement to strip Israel of the honor of hosting the games, scheduled for June 5 to 18. The latest anti-Israel efforts are being led by Bishop Desmond Tutu who is urging UEFA to cancel the matches in protest of Israel’s “treatment of Palestinian sport.” The league has responded by saying there are no plans to do so. A dinner at the UEFA congress in London last week was interrupted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators who were removed by security guards.
